Ran upon this place by accident. Boy...what a nice treat! Amazing photos, and narrations. A great place for a history lesson. The facility is handicapped accessible, and has plenty of seating if walking is an issue.
We were fortunate enough to catch a glimpse of Ross descendants as they left the Visitor Center. What an honor!!!
I think it takes about 1-2 hours to see everything depending on the crowds.
Beautiful location. Building and the displays thoughtfully designed. I will definitely go again. I love Cambridge anyway, definitely worth the drive from there. Bring a picnic, they have a nice outside area to sit and eat. No movie yet as the website said tho, that's coming in 2018 I was told. Will definitely be back
Very educational trip. The info wasn't overwhelming but handled the basics and also covered little known facts. The two hour trip gave great insight into the life of this heroic woman.
There is a gift shop full of books about Harriet Tubman. The lines were quite long in the bookstore on Opening Day.
We attended the Grand Opening of the Harriet Tubman Underground Railroad National Park Visitor Center. The exhibits tug at your heart. When you enter the Visitor Center there is a film that you can watch about Harriet Tubman's Life. Then you walk to the mural wall of Harriet Tubman which pays homage to her. Next there are rooms with statues and exhibits that you can touch. The most moving exhibits are about her family which was of great importance to Harriet Tubman.
This is such a beautiful natural park. The rustic wood of the visitor is magnificent. When the National Park opens in 2017 there will be exhibits showcasing Harriet Tubman's.
The information desk has guides about sites to visit on the Harriet Tubman Byway. They can suggest places to eat and other activities. You can participate in Ranger Walks and Talks about Harriet Tubman's life.
This is a remarkable destination that clearly demonstrates the National Park Service's commitment to commemorate this nation's history. Even the grueling truth of slave families, labor, trauma, economics, justice and equality. Note: the historical marker for Frederick Douglass' birthplace is in nearby Dorchester County. Simply extraordinary.
